Newcastle United has confirmed in a statement that Dan Ashworth will be leaving the team after Manchester United expressed interest in putting him on gardening leave.
Dan Ashworth, the sporting director, is expected to join Manchester United, according to a statement provided by Newcastle United.
The Magpies had previously put Ashworth on gardening leave following rumors that he was connected to INEOS’s redesigned Red Devils. And now Newcastle has officially announced in a statement that he’s moving on, presumably to Old Trafford.
“We are naturally disappointed that Dan has chosen to leave, but our exciting journey doesn’t stop and the process to recruit a new sporting director will begin immediately,” stated Darren Eales, CEO of Newcastle United.
“We thank Dan for his efforts at Newcastle United and we wish him and his family well for the future.”
Ashworth has held positions at Peterborough, Cambridge, West Brom, England Brighton, and Newcastle before establishing a solid reputation in football administration.
