Gazzetta dello Sport (page 2) states that Arsenal have a great possibility of signing Joshua Zirkzee, a striker for Bologna.
This summer, the Gunners are looking for a star center-forward, and over the last few months, Zirkzee has been frequently connected to the team.
Gazzetta dello Sport notes that the club is currently the front-runners to recruit Zirkzee after it was recently disclosed that they had made a €115,000-per-week contract offer.
While AC Milan and Inter Milan are said to have expressed interest in signing him, the Premier League is said to pose the “real threat.”
According to reports, Arsenal has a “great chance” of getting Zirkzee since they have the financial means to persuade Bologna to do business with them.
In addition, it’s said that the Gunners’ “perfect style of play” will convince the striker.
AN AGENT-DRIVEN ZIRKZEE TO ARSENAL SPECULATION
The 22-year-old’s second season at Bologna has gone well. Of his 34 appearances in all competitions, he has 12 goals and 7 assists.
In addition to his goal involvements, Zirkzee’s hold-up and link-up play have drawn attention. In the Italian top division alone, he has produced ten significant opportunities.
We are not quite convinced, though, that he may be Arsenal’s top striker target despite this.
Zirkzee’s performance history is not stellar right now, and it might take him one or two more seasons to become a truly great striker. Arsenal will not wish to engage in idle speculation.
The €70–80 million in transfer requests from Bologna might be another deal-breaker. Arsenal might not spend so much money on someone with such little expertise.
We believe that the conjecture may be agent-driven. It’s likely that Arsenal’s name is being used to solicit proposals from his admirers, Inter and Milan.
He can currently be bought back by Bayern for €40 million. The rumored interest might be just another ruse to get him to re-sign with the German powerhouses this summer.
