McKenna eyes Ipswich swoop for “ridiculous” PL talent dubbed the next Hutchinson!

Among the promoted Championship sides from the thrilling 2023/24 season, Ipswich Town arguably has the strongest chance of surviving in the Premier League. With 15 points so far—more than Leicester City and Southampton—the Tractor Boys recently stunned Chelsea with a 2-0 victory, giving them a significant confidence boost heading into 2025.

However, the road to safety will be filled with challenges, and the January transfer window could be critical for Ipswich to strengthen their squad and bolster their survival hopes. Securing a rumored target could provide Kieran McKenna with the assurance that his side has what it takes to stay in the top flight.

 Ipswich Eyes Philogene-Bidace
According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, Ipswich Town is monitoring Jaden Philogene-Bidace from Aston Villa. The versatile winger nearly joined Ipswich from Hull City last summer before Villa intervened at the last minute.

Philogene

With limited game time at Villa Park—just two Premier League starts—Philogene may be available on loan, a move Ipswich is keen to capitalize on.

 What Philogene Could Bring
Former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior once described Philogene’s on-ball ability as “ridiculous.” A move to Ipswich could see him light up Portman Road, potentially replicating the impact of Omari Hutchinson, who dazzled as a loanee last season. Hutchinson’s 10 goals and five assists were vital to Ipswich’s promotion campaign, and Philogene’s Championship record suggests he could offer even more.

In the 2023/24 season with Hull, Philogene notched 12 goals and six assists, creating havoc for opposing defenses. His creative and clinical presence would add flair and versatility to Ipswich’s attack. Notably, he can operate on either wing, complementing Hutchinson’s work on the right while offering McKenna additional tactical flexibility.

 Boosting Ipswich’s Survival Chances
While Ipswich already boasts attacking firepower, adding the 5’11” Villa talent could further enhance their ability to compete in the Premier League. Philogene’s proven Championship pedigree, combined with his adaptability, makes him a valuable asset in Ipswich’s fight to climb away from the relegation zone.

With Philogene’s potential arrival, McKenna could field a dynamic duo—Hutchinson on the right and Philogene on the left—giving Ipswich the edge to secure more points and secure their Premier League status.
