Ipswich Target January Signings to Boost Survival Hopes
Ipswich Town are ramping up their efforts to strengthen the squad in January, aiming to secure their Premier League survival. Manager Kieran McKenna is focusing on bolstering both defense and attack to address the team’s challenges in their first top-flight campaign in years.
Defensive Reinforcements Incoming
The club is set to announce the signing of former Everton defender Ben Godfrey. After a difficult stint at Atalanta, Godfrey will join Ipswich to provide much-needed depth following injuries to Axel Tuanzebe and Chiedozie Ogbene. The England international completed his medical at Portman Road over the weekend and is expected to be unveiled on Monday.
Attack in Focus
Ipswich, among the Premier League’s lowest-scoring teams, is heavily reliant on Liam Delap and is eager to add firepower. After missing out on Jaden Philogene in the summer, the club has renewed its interest in the Aston Villa attacker, who is now available for loan. Additionally, Ipswich is reportedly pursuing Liverpool’s Ben Doak, although Liverpool’s £30m valuation could deter a deal.
Haji Wright on the Rad
Ipswich has turned to the Championship, eyeing Haji Wright from Coventry City. The 26-year-old USMNT forward has impressed with seven goals and an assist this season, despite being limited to 1,000 minutes due to injury. Wright, who can play as a central striker or left-winger, is expected to return to action this month and is reportedly ready to make a top-flight move.
Coventry is open to selling Wright but has priced him at £16m, aiming to double their investment from his £8m signing 18 months ago. Wright’s versatility makes him an ideal partner and backup for Delap, whose standout performances have already attracted interest from Chelsea.
Race for Goals
With goals critical for relegation-threatened teams like Ipswich and Leicester City, securing Wright could be a pivotal move. Ipswich’s track record of recruiting from the Championship adds confidence to their pursuit, as they aim to ensure Premier League survival in the coming months.
