Life in the Premier League has been challenging for Ipswich Town this season.
Kieran McKenna’s side has delivered impressive performances, earning crucial points against teams like Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Brighton. However, despite their efforts, they remain stuck in the relegation zone.
There is still reason for optimism. Ipswich recently secured their second win of the campaign with a hard-fought victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and continue to benefit from the raw talent of 21-year-old striker Liam Delap.
While Delap has played a key role in their successes, reports of the club pursuing a striker currently outscoring him have sparked excitement among the Portman Road faithful.
Ipswich Town Transfer News
According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Ipswich is among several clubs interested in Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath.
Both Ipswich and West Ham United have reportedly made contact about a potential deal, with growing interest from European clubs as well.
Although no price is specified, Middlesbrough could demand around £20 million for Lath, according to Football League World. Despite the high cost, Lath’s outstanding form makes him a player worth pursuing for the Tractor Boys.
Why Ipswich Should Sign Lath
There are two key reasons why Ipswich should target Lath in January.
First, McKenna needs to bolster his squad with more Premier League-ready talent. While Ipswich has several gifted players, much of their squad remains unchanged from their League One days, which is unsustainable at this level.
Second, Lath’s goal-scoring ability makes him a valuable addition. Last season, the 25-year-old scored 18 goals and provided one assist in 36 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 1.89 games. This season, he continues to impress, with eight goals and two assists in 22 appearances, equating to a goal involvement every 2.2 games.
Lath’s Recent Form
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Goal Involvements per Match |
|———-|————-|——-|———|—————————–|
| 23/24 | 36 | 18 | 1 | 0.52 |
| 24/25 | 22 | 8 | 2 | 0.45 |
This output surpasses Delap’s six goals and one assist in 17 games for Ipswich. While Lath may not displace Delap as the main striker, his raw talent and proven record would make him an excellent backup and elevate the overall quality of the squad, boosting Ipswich’s survival chances.

Ultimately, Emmanuel Latte Lath may not be a household name, but his performances over the last two years justify Ipswich taking a chance on him.
